With a couple of days of rehearsals we went back with two symphonies we had played recently, Haydn 93rd and Mozart 39th ; Lorenzo Coppola, who was working with our winds on Mozart’s C minor Serenade on those dates, also helped us with the preparation. We met Mr. Bilson in Parma during his master classes at the local conservatory; for two days he worked with us on the symphonies and, on the third day, he gave a chamber music recital with some of our string players. During our stay in Parma we also had the chance to meet the conservatory’s students for a long chat about what we do, how and why we do it. We really enjoyed the meeting and we are looking forward to do more of these things as well in the future.

In the fall of 2009, after watching his video entitled “Knowing the Score”, we contacted Malcolm Bilson, the American pianist and scholar, asking whether he would have been able to spend some time with us during his trip to Europe the following spring. Given the work he did throughout his life on the performance practice of classical and romantic repertoire and particularly on understanding the musical text, we thought he would have been a nice person to get in touch with, to talk about some of the issues we have been investigating for the past three years.
