Schubert - Octet in F major D803 1 - 7 February 2011

It often happens during our orchestra projects that a group of us spends the night hours playing chamber music together in the most intimate, private, almost secret setup. We decided to devote a full project to the study of the Schubert octet because Spira mirabilis was created to deepen the knowledge of both the chamber and orchestral repertoire. We like to think that the story of Schubert’s octet started all in Vienna, where we all met for breakfast before leaving for St.Polten. A very warm welcome for us there, in the very cold weather that Schubert knew so well.
Although our way of rehearsing chamber music is not particularly innovative, it is quite special, at least for us, to work with musicians who share a common musical journey and background. The musical journey was definitely shared but the “physical” one was not as smooth: Luise’s cello was rejected on the flight to Bologna and she had an almost 24 hours long train ride to get to Modena right before the start of our last concert. A little plastic smurf was waiting on her stand to raise a smile from her before starting to play. Success!
